Bio

Prof. N.K. Mehra received his Ph.D (Immunology) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He has pioneered the speciality of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics in India and hisresearch is focused on the study of immune mediators in organ and bone marrow transplantation; genome diversity of HLA and towards developing MHC based vaccination approaches in tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections. Prof. Mehra is the 'Founder Secretary General' of the Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania (FIMSA) and is currently the Vice President of the Federation. He has several awards and honors to his credit. Amongst these is the S.S. Bhatnagar Award of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research of (CSIR) Govt. of India in 1992, which is considered to be the highest award for science in India.

We regret to inform the sad demisal of our former Vice President Dr. G.S. Chopra. His work and contribution to expand the ISHI network had been immense and the organisation shall always be grateful to him. Without his leaderhsip and participation, the orgranisation would not be what it is today.

Associate Professor in the Department of Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics, AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr. Kanga has been working in the area of Histocompatibility, Immunogenetics & Transplant Immunology for more than 2 decades. Her research interests include investigating the HLA diversity in Indian population, understanding HLA & disease association and investigating factors influencing outcome of transplantation. She has been awarded prestigious Fellowships by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, UK and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). She has been conferred a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (Transplantation Immunology). She has more than 75 peer-reviewed publications to her credit. She directs the Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory at AIIMS and her lab provides transplant immunology services for both hematopoietic stem cell and renal transplant programs. She has made significant contributions towards development and expansion of the Asian Indian Bone Marrow registry (AIDMR). Dr Kanga is the founder Secretary of the Indian Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ISHI), and serves as the Vice President and Councilor of Asia Pacific Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Association (APHIA), Treasurer of the Indian Immunology Society (IIS) and Co-Chair- ASHI International Committee.

Bio

Dr. Biman Saikia is Professor of Immunopathology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. His area of interest is in the molecular prediction and diagnosis of transplant rejection. He has published more than 70 scientific publications in journals of repute and written 9 book chapters. He is also a founder member of the Indian Society for Primary Immune Deficiency (ISPID) and the current Vice President of the Society and has done pioneering work in the spread of awareness, diagnosis and research on Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases in India.
